Overview

The Auray STBAR-9 is the ideal accessory for capturing stereo sound with two microphones on one mic stand. Recording stereo soundscapes, dialog, or choirs requires carefully placing two microphones in a stereo configuration. The STBAR-9 will help you bring home stereo recordings with realistic sound staging that sounds full and authentic. Diagrams engraved into the center of the bar indicate the precise angles for rapidly setting up A-B, X-Y, and ORTF stereo configurations. Markings on each side of the bar allow you to measure the distance between the capsules from 9 to 20 mm apart, which is an important component of stereo mic placement. Spacers are also included to keep the microphones separated for stacked arrays. The STBAR-9’s 5/8-27 threaded receiver is compatible with most mic stands. And the bar features pan, swivel, and tilt adjustment for fine-tuning your microphone placement, whether you’re recording a choir standing on risers, an outdoor soundscape on uneven terrain.

Features

Two Mics, One Mic Stand

The STBAR-9 will help you with rapid and accurate two-microphone setups when you’re capturing stereo sound with a single mic stand in the field or studio. The stereo bar has a 5/8-27 threaded socket that’s compatible with most microphone stands.

Advanced Stereo Mic Configurations

The STBAR-9 was made for advanced stereo microphone arrays, and the bar will even help you set them up. Angles and measured scales are printed right on the bar to help you position your microphones for A-B, X-Y, and ORTF microphone configurations.

Angle and Spacing Indicators

Angle and spacing indicators are there to help you accurately set up your microphone array each time you record. Use the scales and angles engraved into the bar to precisely repeat your X-Y, A-B, and ORTF configurations with the same spacing, angles, and distance between capsules each time you set up your microphones.

Spacers

Some engineers and recordists like to configure an X-Y microphone array by stacking the two microphones, so one capsule is directly above the other. The spacers that come with the stereo bar make this simple to set up. They ensure your mic capsules are right on top of each other so you can avoid problems with phasing.

Swivel, Tilt, and Pan Adjustment

You won’t always record on flat terrain. And a choir might be standing on risers that tower above floor level. Or you may need to turn your microphones when the sound source changes or moves. For these scenarios, the STBAR-9 has adjustable swivel, tilt, and pan so you can aim your microphones exactly where you need them.

Rugged Construction

The stereo bar is made for travel, with metal and ABS plastic construction. So, don’t leave it behind. Put it in your gear bag and take it with you. It can withstand the shakes and bumps of traveling to locations.
